One-time NFL Star Antonio Brown Enters Innocent Plea in Murder Attempt Trial

Former National Football League player Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to face an attempted murder charge stemming from a shooting that took place in May, with his lawyer entering a innocent declaration on his behalf.

Correctional logs in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, a highly popular players in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was held after being taken into custody in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has previously lodged a formal not guilty declaration to the murder attempt allegation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday early for a bond hearing, Eiglarsh added.

Based on his detention document, Brown is alleged of grabbing a handgun from a security employee after a celebrity boxing event in May and shooting two bullets at a man he had fought with earlier. The alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that one shot scraped his neck.

Eiglarsh stated that Brown was simply safeguarding himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was obliged to take were purely in self-protection against the claimed victim’s violent actions. Brown was assaulted that time and acted within his lawful right to defend himself,” Eiglarsh said.

Brown was not right away arrested because initially authorities did not identify Nantambu as a affected party. It not until afterward in May that Nantambu provided a detailed statement about the event to authorities and identified Brown as the gunman, the report states.

Based on his social media content, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for multiple weeks. In a message after the altercation, Brown claimed he was defending himself because he was “attacked by multiple people who attempted to steal my valuables and bring physical damage to me.”
