This race was expected to be one of the stronger runnings of this unique 7-furlong competition for female horses. Yet, vet checks resulted in several scratches earlier today, including leading runners Sweet Azteca as well as Tamara.

Consequently, the field now appears much smaller, but trainer Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to secure his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His runners feature Richi and Splendora, while Hope Road, winner of the G1 Ballerina Stakes, is considered the primary threat.
